Dealer wanted to replace the whole steering rack, a second opinion said otherwise

I took my Grand Cherokee in for a knocking noise from the front end and the dealer came back saying the steering rack needed replacing, which is a huge job on a car this age. I wasn't convinced, because the noise only happens over rough surfaces and the steering itself feels fine, no play in the wheel, no leaks I can see. It felt like they'd jumped to the most expensive conclusion. I came across https://jeepservicemussafah.ae/mechanic-service/ while looking for a second opinion, and I'm glad I did because the actual problem turned out to be a worn sway bar link rather than the rack. Has anyone else had a dealer quote that turned out to be way off? I'm starting to think a second opinion should just be standard on anything expensive.
